I live some what locally, on the Gold Coast, so staying at the apartment is more a bonus for me than a real requirement, it does however give me much longer time at the con since the trains and public transport would eat up too much sleep/con time. I plan to train up on tuseday and help out with setup for a few hours, then come back on wednesday, check in and start over at the convention center again. There are a lot of tables to set up, bags to prepare and general running about.
At the convention I plan to do what ever is needed, maybe a little (read lot!) shopping and a looking at new game demos, maybe some simple pickup games. I'm not a torny player. I do hope to have some more munchkin games. That was an awesome game last year.
If 2008 is an indication, odds are high I'll be one of the people in the booth that everyone comes to see, the long line up to get an entry pass

I did that for 5 days last year, it was a heck of a lot of fun, if somewhat crazy busy at times. It was a great place for meeting people and seeing some old friends I'd not seen in 3 or 5 years.
Gen Con Oz 2009 is going to be fantastic.
